Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust
The Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust Undergraduate Academy comprises of three hospital sites: Worcestershire Royal Hospital, the Alexandra Hospital Redditch and the Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre.
The Trust provides a wide range of services to a population of 592,158 people in Worcestershire as well as caring for patients from surrounding counties and further afield.
In 2022/23, we provided care to more than 250,000 different patients – that's 40% of the Worcestershire population that received care at one of our hospitals, including:
165,086 A&E attendances, 143,956 inpatients, 593,451 outpatients, 4,875 births
We also carried out:
19,379 operations, 21,407 MRI scans, 71,378 CT scans, 70,997 non-obstetric ultrasound scans, 190,276 plain film X-rays, 20,902 endoscopies.

Our Undergraduate Academy team are here to facilitate your placement at WAHT and ensure that you maximise potential opportunities. Our friendly and approachable administrative team will guide you through your placement, working alongside our Clinical Teaching Fellows, Clinical Skills Nurses and Simulation team to ensure that you achieve all your learning objectives.
We have a wide range of facilities including state of the art simulation equipment, virtual reality headsets for simulation and libraries on all sites. We also have a small number of rooms available for accommodation for when students do an ‘on-call’.

Head of AcademyDr Rachel Bullock is the Head of Academy and a Macmillan Consultant in Palliative Medicine at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. Rachel has a Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Education and has an interest in medical law and ethics. She is also Education Site Director for Three Counties Medical School in a role she shares with Dr Simonds.

Deputy Head of AcademyDr Luke Simonds (he/him) is the Deputy Head of Academy and an Intensive Care Speciality Doctor at Worcestershire Acute NHS Hospitals Trust. Luke is also the lead for the Acutely Ill Patient module. He has a keen interest in LGBTQ+ healthcare and inclusive undergraduate curricula and is the Chair of the LGBTQ+ Network at Worcestershire Acute. He is also member of the Complex Case Committee at the University of Birmingham.
