Head of Academy
Dr Rachel Bullock
Dr Rachel Bullock is the Head of Academy and a Macmillan Consultant in Palliative Medicine at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. Rachel has a Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Education and has an interest in medical law and ethics. She is also Education Site Director for Three Counties Medical School in a role she shares with Dr Simonds.
Deputy Head of Academy
Dr Luke Simonds
Dr Luke Simonds (he/him) is the Deputy Head of Academy and an Intensive Care Speciality Doctor at Worcestershire Acute NHS Hospitals Trust. Luke is also the lead for the Acutely Ill Patient module. He has a keen interest in LGBTQ+ healthcare and inclusive undergraduate curricula and is the Chair of the LGBTQ+ Network at Worcestershire Acute. He is also member of the Complex Case Committee at the University of Birmingham.

Julia Kershaw
Administrative Lead: Julia is responsible for overviewing all placements and for providing an efficient, approachable Administration Team for students, faculty and colleagues.

Rebecca Wise
Deputy Administrative Lead: Rebecca is responsible for the Year 5 AIP placement through University of Birmingham and the Three Counties Medical School as well as being responsible for the overview of all placements and colleagues/students in the absence of Julia.
“Having been in Education for many years, the satisfaction of developing new doctors and seeing progression really encourages my passion for the role that I’m in. Outside of work I enjoy being part of GirlGuiding and reading”

Beth Garfield
Undergraduate Co-ordinator: Beth is responsible for Year 5 Paediatric placements as well as Year 4 Surgery Perioperative care for the University of Birmingham.
Beth has recently completed a degree in Primary Initial Teacher Education from the University of Worcester, but this is her first role in the NHS.
“I have always been interested in Education but I wanted to experience a new side of Education through working with trainee doctors who are just beginning their careers. Putting the students first is very important to me and I feel this role allows me to help develop new doctors and give them the best experience at our trust.”

Harry Bulow
Undergrad Co-Ordinator: Harry is responsible for Year 5 Obstetrics & Gynaecology as well as Year 3 placements through the University of Birmingham. Harry has worked for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust for 4 years and has only recently joined the Undergraduate Academy after previously working for the Learning & Development department.

Undergraduate Co-ordinator: Susan is currently responsible for the Year 4 Speciality Medicine Group A & B placements through University of Birmingham and the placements from University of Warwick.

Dr Laura Tulloch
Dr Laura Tulloch is an Intensive Care and Anaesthetic consultant. She is also the Trust Lead for Medical Simulation with oversight of both postgraduate and undergraduate simulation. She has a keen interest in human factors and patient safety and regularly runs in-situ simulations to improve outcomes within the Trust.

Marion De Almeida Santos
Marion is the Lead Nurse for Clinical skills and Simulation for the WAHT Undergraduate Teaching Academy. Marion is a Law graduate with a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing and has a Master’s Degree in Education. She has many years of clinical experience working in anaesthetics and resuscitation. Marion has worked as a University Lecturer for Nursing and Paramedics and is passionate about inter-professional learning and human factors. She has also worked as a member of the Resuscitation Council UK European Paediatric Advanced Life Support subcommittee. Marion loves teaching and is an instructor on a range of resuscitation courses, GIC, ALS, EPALS and APLS.

Andy Mcqueen
Andy is a clinical skills and simulation nurse for WAHT Undergraduate Teaching Academy. Andy's nursing background consists of trauma and orthopaedics, surgical HDU and recovery, oncology and critical care outreach. He has also worked in nurse education at Birmingham City University and enjoys student education and development.
Andy is an ILS instructor and ALS provider and enjoys working clinically in HDU. Away from nursing he enjoys running and playing golf.

Angie Connell
Angie Connell is a registered General Nurse and has worked in Undergraduate Medical Education for the last 8 years, predominantly teaching clinical skills and procedures. She has a PG certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education and has a HEA Fellowship. Her clinical background is cardiology and diabetes in both acute and primary care.

Emma Roberts
Emma is a Clinical Skills and Simulation Nurse with an extensive clinical background in Critical Care Nursing and Organ and Tissue Donation facilitation and education.
Her passion for education is born from the idea that this will improve patient care and safety in the NHS.
Outside of work, Emma loves strength training, yoga and hanging out with her King Charles Spaniel.

Emmy Osuntade
Emmanuel Osuntade is the Clinical Skills and Simulation Technician for WAHT Undergraduate Teaching Academy
Emmanuel has a Master’s Degree in Agricultural & Environmental Engineering from University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria in 2006, a Diploma in Biomedical Technician and a Diploma in Facility Management
Emmanuel has 15 years’ experience as a Project Engineer in Healthcare (Biomedical Technician) who is responsible for Hospital Equipment installation, maintenance and training. Also, has a 3 years’ experience as a Facility Manager with one of the foremost Private Hospital (BENIN MEDICAL CARE) in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria.

Khalil Hussein
Dr Khalil Hussein is the Clinical Simulation Fellow for WAHT Undergraduate Teaching Academy. He has training in General Practice, as well as experience in Ambulatory Medicine and Occupational Health. He has also taught Biology to students in secondary school and 6th form.
He has a passion for education, particularly in human factors, and is now using his combined skills to deliver simulation-based education. He is in the process of completing his PGCert in Multidisciplinary Healthcare Simulation.

Lizzie Goddard
Lizzie is a simulation nurse with 18 years’ clinical experience in general surgery including high dependency care and care of the critically ill patients. Lizzie has a passion for undergraduate and post graduate education. Lizzie has completed her PG Cert – Teaching in Health Care to enable her to teach professionals. Lizzie has also won mentor of the year 2010.

Dr Carol Wong
Dr Carol Wong is our Lead Clinical Teaching Fellow following completion of her Internal Medical Training Stage 1 and she is undertaking a PG Certificate in Medical Education at the University of Birmingham. She has a clinical interest in Respiratory medicine and spends a day a week working in respiratory clinics and developing her thoracic ultrasound skills.

Dr Charlotte Laycock
Dr Charlotte Laycock is a Clinical Teaching Fellow appointed in 2023 following completion of Foundation Year Training at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. She is undertaking a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education at the University of Birmingham. She has a clinical interest in Palliative Medicine and works within the Hospital Palliative Care Team for one day a week, in addition to her teaching commitments within the Undergraduate Academy

Dr Ellie East
Ellie graduated from the University of Manchester with degrees in medicine and public health. She then completed foundation training in Nottingham. She currently works clinically in renal medicine alongside her teaching commitments and is completing a PG Cert in Medical Education. She hopes to pursue a career in genitourinary medicine.

Dr Hannah Mudd
Dr Hannah Mudd is a Clinical Teaching Fellow appointed in 2023 following completion of Foundation Training and are undertaking a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education at the University of Birmingham. They have an interest in general medicine and work one day a week in the Emergency Department alongside their teaching commitments.

Dr Iman Denideni
Dr Iman Denideni started as a Clinical Teaching Fellow in August. She graduated from University of Birmingham in 2022 and completed her foundation training in Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. Her career aspirations are a combination of Medical Education and Emergency Medicine. She is completing her Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, and works one day a week in the Emergency Department at Worcester.

Dr Jagdeep Bal
Dr Jagdeep Bal is a Clinical Teaching Fellow appointed in 2024. She graduated from the University of Nottingham and completed her foundation training within the Oxford Deanery. She is currently undertaking a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education and works one day a week with the stroke team.

Dr Jessica Williams
Dr Jessica Williams is a Clinical Teaching Fellow at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. After graduating from the University of Birmingham she completed her foundation training at the trust. In addition to the teaching fellow role she is undertaking PG Certificate in Medical Education back at the University of Birmingham and spends one day a week in the trust in Paediatrics to aid her future aspirations of becoming a GP.

Dr Kirsty Clayton
Dr Kirsty Clayton is a Clinical Teaching Fellow appointed in August 2024 following completion of Foundation Training and a locum year in general medicine. She is undertaking a PG Certificate in Medical Education at the University of Birmingham and has an interest in radiology and general medicine. Alongside her teaching commitments, she works one day a week with the anaesthetics team to widen her clinical knowledge and acquire new practical skills.

Dr Komal Nawaz
Dr Komal Nawaz is a Clinical Teaching Fellow at Worcester Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. She holds a degrees in biomedical science and medicine. She spent some time as a medical student at Worcester Royal hospital whilst at the University of Birmingham and also completed her foundation training here. She is currently undertaking a PG Certificate in Medical Education at the University of Birmingham and has a special interest in Accident and Emergency medicine, where she spends one day a week.

Lucy Pilcher
Paediatric Clinical Teaching Fellow appointed in September 2024. She graduated from University of Birmingham. She has completed four years of paediatric speciality training working across the West Midlands. She is currently also undertaking a PG Certificate in Medical Education. She is continuing to work clinically in paediatrics and neonates with an interest in general paediatrics alongside her teaching fellow role.

Miss Jency Mariam
Mrs. Mariam works as Senior Clinical Fellow in Upper GI Surgery with special interest in Benign & Bariatric Surgery. She is JAG-certified surgeon endoscopist. She is an ES & CS for foundation Drs and core trainees in General Surgery. In addition, she is Faculty for RCS England courses like Basic Surgical Skills (BSS), Core and Intermediate skills in Laparoscopic Surgery, CCrISP & ATLS. She has extensive experience in simulation-based education and has been OSCE examiner for medical students. To pursue her career as medical educator, Mrs. Mariam is undertaking PGCert in medical education (2024-25) at University of Birmingham.
In her role as Clinical Academy Teacher at WAHT undergraduate academy, she teaches general surgery modules & skills to medical students. She has keen interest in bedside teaching while rounding through the wards, non-technical skills for surgeons (NOTSS) & champion for patient safety as per NCEPOD recommendations.

Mr Shahbaz Malik
Mr Malik is a Sports and Orthopaedic Surgeon with an interest in Shoulder and Knee reconstruction and replacement and offers surgery for athletes. He is also Educational/Assistant TPD for Higher Surgical Trainees in Trauma and Orthopaedics on Birmingham Orthopaedic Training Programme where he organises weekly teaching for the trainees. Mr Malik is also Countywide Clinical Service Lead for Trauma at WAHT. He has a keen interest in research and has written several book chapters and published over 50 articles in peer review journals.

Dr Anthony Dyal
Dr Anthony R S Dyal, University of Warwick COMP Supervisor
Anthony Dyal is a Specialty Doctor in Urology who has a special interest in Prostate Cancer screening. He holds master’s degrees in Endocrinology and Public Health, and is currently undertaking a master's in Medical Education.
He is the teaching co-ordinator for Urology, he sits on the ARCP panel for Foundation trainees and is a UKFP Educational and Clinical Supervisor.
Teaching sessions may range from Surgical and Endocrinology lectures to OSCE practice in the Urology SDEC Unit.

Dr Corinne Hield is one of the Paediatric Senior Academy Tutors and a paediatric consultant with a specialist interest in diabetes at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. Dr Helen Bateman
Dr Helen Bateman is a Rheumatology Consultant and Senior Academy Tutor at Worcester Royal hospital.
Sharing her extensive experience in clinical rheumatology to help educate and mentor medical students to become the best doctors they can be is one of her main goals. Her experience and tutoring in different practice and academic settings helps provide varied approaches to acquiring clinical diagnostic skills. Tutorials and “hands on” clinical experience are available in clinic, and infusion unit settings along with case discussions and conferences to enhance group self-directed learning. Dr Bateman is very enthusiastic and is happy to answer questions and provide whatever support may be needed during this exciting time in medicine.

Dr Karen Baker
Dr Baker is a Clinical Fellow in Palliative Care at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and Senior Academy Tutor for third year medical students. Prior to taking on this role, she worked as a GP in Worcestershire, so has good knowledge of hospital and community care. She has an interest in teaching and regularly offers teaching sessions to a variety of audiences within the county.

Mr Jonathan Chester
Mr Jonathan Chester is a consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, who specialises in Ambulatory Gynaecology. He is interested in outpatient procedures, heavy menstrual bleeding and post-menopausal bleeding. He is the college tutor, responsible for all the trainees in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Trust, as well as being a senior academic tutor. He is also a Personal Academic Tutor for the university of Birmingham.

Dr Natasha Charlwood
I trained in London and Manchester, I moved to Worcester initially as a registrar and subsequently as a consultant vascular surgeon in 2017. I live in Hereford with my husband and three children and split my week between both sites. I really enjoy my role as senior academic tutor, and see my job mostly to provide pastoral support and encouragement.

Miss Pamela Sivathondan
Miss Pamela Sivathondan is a Consultant Colorectal and IBD Surgeon in the Trust. She is also Associate Medical Director for Research and Innovation and has a keen interest in teaching, having been a Senior Academy Tutor for the last five years. Her background in teaching stems from her time at Oxford where she was Oxford Surgical Tutor, core surgery trainee teaching lead, Tutor at Harris Manchester and Green Templeton College. Her passion is bedside teaching and she also delivers lectures for foundation year doctors.

Mr Salman Mirza
Mr Salman Mirza is a consultant ophthalmologist with special interest in retinal and macular diseases.
He performs high volume and complex phacoemulsification cataract surgery, intravitreal injections and implants, laser treatments for diabetic retinopathy.
He is Senior Academy Tutor for 4th year medical students from university of Birmingham at WAHT. He delivers interactive lectures on topics like:
A patient with blurred vision, Red eye, Eye Emergencies, Systemic diseases and the eye, Diabetic retinopathy, Age related macular degeneration
His SAT sessions also involve OSCE training on pupils, eye movements, visual fields, cranial nerve examination as well as discussion on canvas cases on glaucoma etc

Dr Sophie Hayden
Dr Hayden is a speciality doctor in anaesthetics and a SAT for the AIP block for the fifth year medical students.

Mr Steven John Robinson
Mr. Steven John Robinson (John) is a Consultant General Surgeon with a specialist interest in Bariatric and upper gastrointestinal surgery. He has gained extensive expertise in these areas during his medical training, his time practicing in the NHS, in the military, and in New Zealand.
He has presented at conferences in the UK and abroad, and has written and contributed to publications. He also reviews for the British Medical Journal.
As well as being a member of the faculty of surgical trainers with the Royal College of Surgeons of England, John has provided training with Advanced Trauma and Life Support, Care of the Critically Ill Patient, and is an endoscopy trainer. John has undergraduate teaching commitments as a Senior Academy Tutor and is a validated examiner for Birmingham University Medical School.

Dr Vivi Weckemann
