Support for TCMS Students

Student support

It is possible that students will seek support or raise concerns to their Educational Supervisors while on clinical placements. Please note that all but minor pastoral issues should be discussed with the individuals identified below. At induction to the course, Phase 1 students are made aware of the TCMS and university-based support mechanisms. Educational Supervisors are also free to contact these services. Educational Supervisors can contact TCMS-associated NHS staff to discuss any issues. The main contact points of reference within the NHS are:

The Education Site Directors

The TCMS Phase 2 and clinical placement lead: Dr Russell Peek r.peek@worc.ac.uk

TCMS and the university have a range of support services available to NHS Educational Supervisors. Staff will welcome any contact from NHS partners.

Each student has a Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) (in Phase 1, these are the students’ PBL Facilitators). The PAT is usually, but not exclusively, the students’ first point of contact with the school for academic and personal matters. PATs can be contacted via the school.

Each year group at the school has its own University Academic Tutor (UAT) who follows the year group for the four years of the course. UATs can also be contacted via the school.

The school has a designated support lead (the Student Support and Guidance Lead) able to provide additional support to all students, Prof Lisa Jones (lisa.jones@worc.ac.uk)

Other staff members are available discuss any matters arising on placement or to signpost students or Educational Supervisors to appropriate services. These include:

Prof. Kay Mohanna (Programme Director), Professor of Values Based Healthcare Education, k.mohanna@worc.ac.uk

Prof. Rachel Ashworth (Phase 1 Lead), Professor of Education in Physiology r.ashworth@worc.ac.uk

Dr John Lewis Senior Lecturer (Lead for PBL, ICM and Faculty Development) john.lewis@worc.ac.uk

The students can access university-based services (Firstpoint) directly or by referral from TCMS staff.
