The Undergraduate Academy, under the Medical Education department at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust , provides undergraduate education for doctors in training.
We operate across three hospital sites: Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Alexandra Hospital Redditch and Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre.
We accommodate over 200 students annually, on placement from Birmingham Medical School, Warwick Medical School, and a growing number each year from the newer Three Counties Medical School as their students are being on-boarded over progressive academic years since 2023.

Depending on the placement, our students can expect to undertake training at one or more of the three hospital sites across the Trust: Worcestershire Royal Hospital (Worcester), Alexandra Hospital (Redditch), and Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre .
Formal teaching is primarily held at Charles Hastings Education Centre (CHEC) on the Worcestershire Royal Hospital site. Worcestershire Royal Hospital
The Undergraduate Academy operates primarily out of the first floor of the Charles Hastings Education Centre (CHEC) adjacent to Worcestershire Royal Hospital (WRH).
WRH is the largest of our three hospitals sites and is the main site for most undergraduate placements with the Academy. Worcestershire Royal provides specialist services for the whole of Worcestershire including stroke services and cardiac stenting. The state-of-the-art Worcestershire Oncology Centre opened in January 2015, providing radiotherapy services for cancer patients. The hospital has nine operating theatres. It has a level 2 neonatal intensive care unit and a cardiac catheterisation laboratory. It has a large Emergency Department including a paediatric ED.
Alexandra Hospital, Redditch
Undergraduate services at “the Alex” are based in the Education Centre, first floor of the hospital building.
The Alexandra Hospital is the major centre for the county’s urology service. The hospital has eight operating theatres, MRI and CT scanners and cancer unit status for breast, lung, urology, gynaecology and colorectal cancers. The hospital is the hub of elective surgery.
Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre
Kidderminster Hospital houses the Kidderminster Treatment Centre which offers outstanding clinical facilities and patient accommodation for a wide range of daycase, short stay and inpatient procedures.
The nurse-led minor injuries services deal with a wide variety of injuries including simple fractures, soft tissue injuries, lacerations, bites, burns and scaled.
Other facilities at the Kidderminster site include a full range of outpatient clinics – including outpatient cancer treatment in the Millbrook Suite – MRI and CT scanners and a renal dialysis unit.
