Clinical Skills/Simulation
· The team attended the ASPiH conference in Edinburgh, where Sophie Page presented her poster The role of simulation in the opening of a new Emergency Department. Sophie simulated emergencies to improve patient safety by running instu simulations in preparation for the new ED opening.
· The team have welcomed a new cohorts of peads, O&G, SPM A& B and SPC students.
· The team are a new pilot centre in the West Midlands for ASPiH’s Becoming Simulation Faculty. This course aims to introduce standardisation across the country for teaching and delivering simulation.
· The skills team will be introducing a new bleep system whereby students can bleep for advice on clinical skills.

Updates
· CTFs to deliver welcome tours to new Year 3s, 4s and Year 5 Paeds and Year 5 Obs and gynae students!
· Year 3s will be having weekly bedside teachings and tutorials tailored for their learning needs.
· Year 4 UoB students have weekly bedside teaching and tutorials tailored to their specialty rotations. They also participate in a simulation and a study day to consolidate their learning.
· Year 5 AIP will be participating in escape rooms as fun way to consolidate learning and teamwork.
· CTFs are engaging with their PGCert and PGDip courses to enhance their teaching and research skills and will be submitting their coursework essays this month.
Events
· 2nd AIP bleep day to be delivered on 8th January to help orientate year 5 students with utilizing a bleep and prepare them for prioritizing tasks as an F1.
· Year 5 formative OSCEs 21st January 2024 Alexandra hospital
· Year 4 SPM B study day 24th January to reinforce learning from the placement to date
· Year 5 paeds study day 28th January
Farewells
· Goodbye lead CTF Carol who will be missed immensely
Administration
January 2025
· 6th January- we welcome our first cohort of 2025 with new University of Birmingham year 3, 4 and 5 students all starting. As well as new University of Warwick students.
· 14th January- our first TCMS LOC student starts with these running throughout January for TCMS students.
· 20th January- our first rotation of dental students for the year starts their placement.
· 21st January- University of Birmingham Quality Assurance Visit.
· 31st January- we say goodbye to all our Year 5 students including AIP, Paediatrics and O&G. We wish them all the best luck in their exams later in the year!
